Johann Michael Rottmayr was a male painter, whose artistic style can be attributed mainly to Baroque. The European artist was born in 1654 in (Baptism date running at the Salzach, Bavaria and died at the age of 76 in 1730 in Vienna, Vienna state, Austria.

The equal counterpart to this painting, the "Sacrifice of Isaac", also was from 1783 in the Harrach PaintingGallery and is now part of the Alte Galerie am Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz (Inv 580).
