The seascape’s brilliant color, loose brushwork, and attention to sunlight are characteristic of the Impressionist approach Luce adopted by the late 1890s, after his affiliation with the Neo-Impressionist movement. This 1908 view of boats on the Meuse River was inspired by Luce’s trip to the Netherlands the previous year.
