The statue of the "Farnese Hercules" and some ancient ruins surround a paved path that evokes the Via Appia. At the foot of the remains, a man raises a tombstone and discovers the entrance to a cave that watching two women dressed in antique. The composition leaves room to cloudy sky on which a large tree silhouette cut-out.

1790. aastal koosneb Pierre-Antoine'i näitekirjaniku Caron de Beaumarchaisi juhtdekoor kaheksast paneelist Hubert Robertist tema mõisa suurde elutuppa Pariisis.
